Education

Jonas is an actor/poet/writer/journalist/photographer/dancer/juggler/fire-spinner/model/gemini. He was born in musty, dusty, rusty city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and now resides in the Big Apple.

Jonas is a Fulbright Scholar who holds a Master of Philosophy in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Cambridge (UK) and a Bachelor of Philosophy in Media & Professional Communications and International &Area Studies from the University of Pittsburgh (US), from where he graduated summa cum laude.

His master's dissertation is entitled, "De-Shelving Apartheid, Re-Imagining Resistance: Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions and the Palestinian National Movement." His undergraduate thesis is entitled, "The Impact of Media Bias on Coverage of Catastrophic Events: A Case Study from the New York Times' Coverage of the Palestine/Israel Conflict."

A freelance journalist and photographer, Jonas has had articles and photographs published in the Egypt Daily Star (Cairo), Insight Magazine (Egypt), Nox Magazine (Jordan), The New People (Pittsburgh), and TwoDay Magazine (New York).

 

In 2007, Jonas served as the media relations coordinator for the International Solidarity Movement in the West Bank, Palestine where he worked closely with Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists and media outlets.

 

Jonas studied theatre and creative writing at the Pittsburgh High School for Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA). He writes spoken word, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction.

He is also trained in acrobalance, fire spinning, and juggling. In 2006, Jonas co-founded the Tel Rumeida Circus for Detained Palestinians in the West Bank, Palestine, where he performed and taught children circus arts.
